About the Austin Area Amateur Radio Club The Austin Area Amateur Radio Club was established in 1958 by W0AZR Cecil Davis (1904-1993). There were 26 original members and hopefully, someday I will be able to have a complete list of the original members. Cecil Davis was considered the Grandfather of Amateur Radio in Austin, MN. In 1973, Cecil Davis W0AZR, Douglas Schmidt WA0VEZ and Keith Dahlgren WA0VEB with the help of Civil Defense Director James Weber promoted and received our first Mower County Civil Defense 2 Meter Repeater. It was used for emergencies, storm watches and any means that club members could help the community and county. Throughout the year 2008, we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Austin Area Amateur Radio Club. Any input into this page will be greatly appreciated. Please send pertinent information to the club secretary. 73 for now, John KB0SPM. Special thanks to Erv Schmidt WB0LSG, for his printed information. |
